About us
Our objectives are to foster the practice and enjoyment of astronomy, cosmology and related interests.
We pursue these goals by:
- Bringing together people interested in astronomy for mutual help, exchange of ideas and development of their knowledge
- Organising and encouraging astronomical observations
- Holding social events and visits
- Circulating Society news, observations, and current astronomical information by means of a Society Newsletter
We hold regular talks from both visiting speakers and members, on a wide range of topics from Cosmology to Astronomy in Ancient Egypt, to Particle Physics, to Meteorology. Weather-permitting, observing evenings are encouraged, especially for special events such as meteor showers and comets, and a number of small reflecting telescopes are available for members' use. Social events such as barbecues are often arranged to coincide with observations.
